Built in Phone & On-Star - not the same

If you are referring to On-Star then the responses are correct. However, the phone buttons on the steering wheel still do not work, even when using On-Star.
The Built-in Phone is an option in countries (mostly in Europe) where the cellular companies will sell you an extra SIMM chip for your cell phone number. It is actually another cellular phone. Since most cell phones sold in the USA have prioprietary circuitry which restrict usage to one provider, this system simply won't work in the USA, and is not sold here.
My understanding is that this option is quite expensive and given its limitations, is not very popular.
I have a 2006 Saab 9-3, no On-Star avaliable for that MY, so no in-car phone for me at all. GM refuses to include Bluetooth as OEM, so as not to compete with their precious On-Star revenue.
Every other luxury brand (Mercedes, BMW, etc.) has both On-Star and Bluetooth, but Saab does not speak volumes for GM's corporate greed.
Enough venting already,
