I tracked my 03 9-3 SS back in 2004 and the car did quite well (I was fighting a cold so couldn't really appreciate the day). The brakes were not a problem at all and there was no noticeable fade.
As you say, the car was a handful in the corners and understeered noticeably but on the straights it pulled great.
By way of comparison, my modified SPG was a different car all together. Far better through the corners and far more predictable, except that I tended to melt the front tires a bit and had to back off.
