That's the knock on Saabs, but BMW and Audi calling Saab unreliable is the pot calling the kettle black. Acura is a different story. If reliability is your personal #1 priority, go Japanese, or go with the one Saab endoresed by consumer magazines for reliability, the 9-5.

For me the reliability of a Japanese car is far outweiged by the ugliness, asthetics and sameness. I gladly sacrifice a little reliability for the sytle, performance and SAFETY of the Saabs. In general reliability of automobiles has improved so much that even a car that falls into someone's unreliabile category is better than the most reliable cars 10-15 years ago.

Durability is a seperate issue than reliability and here Saabs excel with thicker paint and stronger steel than the Japs. And Saabs don't go out of style. An old 900 or 9000 is still a very desirable automobile and they are affordable to maintain and repair, and still very stylish and safe,

As for a 9-3SS the 1st year, 2003 was a little glitchy, but that's a combination of new technology for the technicians as well as new systems in the car. Mechanically the cars have been bullet proof with a general lack of powertrain and accessory issues. Most problems have been concerned with the software and sensors, a common knock on all modern cars. The vast majority of cars were fine for 2003 and subsequent years, 2004 and up are darn good.
