We've owned 93 9000CSE, 95 900S, 98 900SE Convertible and now have bitten the bullet and bought 2007 2.0T convertible and 2007 2.0 9-3 Sport Sedan with 6oth anniv. package in both. All our cars have been manual transmissions. Shopping for the 2007's we test drove the V6 engine with manual tranny in a couple Aero's. Honestly, I wasn't impressed with the V6 engine. Having put about a 1000 miles on my 2007 9-3, I have to tell you that the car is fast, tight and a real hoot in just about all respects. It handles like a dream and whatever turbo lag there is is a LOT less noticeable than in earlier iterations of the 2.0 turbo engine. I'd test drive a 2007 with the 4 cyl turbo engine. You'll save a ton over a 2008 and you'll love the improvement over the 2004 technology.
Good luck and have fun.
