I had the same issue and was able to hear it only when windows were down and I was going slowly and making left or right turns. It sounded like small stone hitting thin metal plate. Recently I had 30K service done and dealer said that they were not able to reproduce the issue. Also, they rotated wheels. I will check whether the noise is there (although it is cold here) or not and report back. Some time ago I read the something may be hitting the back plate ...
