Half of the oil service indicator reading... My 2005 9-3 Aero is used for stop and go city driving with most trips under 15 miles. The oil monitor calculates about 10,000 miles (and about 12.5 months) for the recommended oil change. That is just too long in my opinion. I would be more comfortable with oil changes at 5000 to 7500 miles under those driving conditions.
I paid to have the dealer change the oil at 5000 miles (the 50% point), but did not have the oil monitor reset at that time. Then when the oil monitor says that it is time to change the oil at about 10,000 miles, I will let Saab do the oil change and reset the oil monitor (which will be covered by the Saab 3-yr free maintenance program). That way, the oil changes are more often and about equally spaced.
