Today driving down the road I looked at the SID and it displayed a picture of a steering wheel and a pad lock. The SID stated I was having a steering wheel lock failure and to safely pull over and contact my SAAB dealer. At the same time everything (speedometer, gas gauge, all lights) on my steering column shut off. The car drove fine, radio, heat, lights on dash, etc all worked. Basically everything on my steering column shut off. I kept driving because I live and Maine and due to the amount of snow we have you cannot pull to the side of the road because there are 10 foot snowbanks. Then all of the sudden while I was driving the dash acted like I just started the car! All of the lights came on, check engine, battery, abs, etc. and then the SID stated "checking..." then "ok". I called SAAB and they said they don't know what would cause the issue and they would have to look at my car. My experience with the dealer looking at the electical issues is to replace the computer, or at least one of them, and the problem doesn't go away. Has anyone had this issue or have any idea why it would happen? I previously had an issue with EVERYTHING showing up as a failure on the sid and it was because the battery's positive charge cable was so loose it would disconnect going down the road...
