As I understand it, Saab Financial will excuse any exterior ding or scratch that will fit within a circle 1-inch in diameter OR that would cost less than $100 to repair. There is a different standard for the interior, but I don't recall what it is.
I turned in my 2005 9-5 Arc wagon in October.
My front air dam had a lot of scrapes and scratches. The dealer wasn't sure if I would be charged for it, so they asked one of the lease inspectors (informally) for his opinion. He said that I would be, so I got it painted before the lease inspector came to officially inspect my car.
After awhile, I got a letter in the mail from Saab Financial asking for payment for: (1) two new tires -- my front tires had low tread at the outer edges, (2) soiled floor mats, and (3) broken trim on the driver's seat. I did have a long scratch on the top of the rear bumper (and a few minor dings here and there) but since the cost of repair for each of them individually, I was not charged for them.
They charged me $120 per tire, and compared to the Tire Rack price, this was a low price. I suppose I might have been able to buy a couple of used tires somewhere and saved a couple of bucks, but don't forget, all four tires have to match.
I protested the charge for the soiled floor mats. Yes, they were dirty, but since they were light tan in color, they really showed dirt. I explained that this was only normal "wear and tear." They dropped the charge.
I also protested the charge for the broken trim on the driver's seat. I explained that this was a problem with the design, and was covered by the warranty. (My previous Saab had the same problem and it was fixed under warranty.) They dropped that charge, too.
So, in the end, I paid them $240 for the two tires (plus I paid the body shop for painting my front spoiler.)
