Jonathan,
I just turned in an 05 Arc auto with 45k miles at the end of a 3yr lease. I picked up an 08 with cold weather and premium package. $396/mo no money down (except 1st month, tax & reg). It's too soon to say for sure, but I'm about 500mi into this one and I have to say I wish I still had my 05. The 08 is not a bad car, it has a softer ride, much more quiet and over all smoother. Many of the "embarrassing" noises you mention are gone. It's got xenon headlights (I get flashed by other drivers though) and alot more features than the 05. I'm hoping that when it's broken in that I may like it as much as I enjoyed the 05. The 05 fit like a glove, I trusted that car enormously, it was very predictable and felt more in touch with the road. To me the 08 feels some what bigger and heavier and seems to "wallow" a bit sometimes, and at instances feels under powered. I'm hoping these attributes will dissapear when broken in. I like the new look of the front but sometimes it looks too big. I think this front may be more to fit a V6 and/or xwd but oversized for the 2.0T. I think GM has gotten a little too involved in this one, with a "one size fits all" approach. Everyones talking about the XWD and Aero, and if gas weren't $4+/gal the 2.0T outlook would be bleak. Good Luck, John...
