In some states when a dealer pays off the vehicle on the lot (typically this is done when he purchases the car from manufacture to get incentives that are about to expire) the car is officially in dealers name (no longer owned by manufacturer) and warranty clock is ticking.
On the title it will say first owner "Saab of anytown, USA". Technically this is considered a used car even with no miles on it.
I Live in CT and bought a truck in NJ and thats how I found out...
CT DMV said car was "used" all paperwork from dealer gave new car warranty... actually save me $$ on taxes!
Dealer told me in advance that he had to do this to get incentive from corporate which expired end of the month and I couldnt pick it up that day.
My in service date was 5/31 but I picked it up 6/1
You can ask the dealer to do this or look for a car which already has an active in service date.... (Demo/Loaner) I believe these are all technically "used vehicles" I assume you are paying cash. This may not be an option with a finance purchase.
