Here is another thing to consider.
With the 2008 9-3 models, Saab redesigned the way the light switches work. For details, check this message: http://saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9-3/index.html?bID=131775
I believe that one of the sensors to measure ambient light for the "auto" position on the headlight switch is on the back of the rear view mirror. (There is a deep hole on the back of the 2008 rearview mirrors.)
If I am correct, then your 2004 mirror won't have this sensor, and it may mess up you headlight switch options.
