When oil life monitor says 50% or about 5,000-miles.... My 2005 9-3 Aero is used for stop and go city driving with most trips under 15 miles. The oil monitor calculates about 10,000 miles (and about 24-months) for the recommended oil change. That is just too long in my opinion. I would be more comfortable with oil changes at 5000 to 7500 miles under those driving conditions.
I pay to have the dealer change the oil at 5000-miles (the 50% oil life point) which is also about once a year, but do not have the oil monitor reset at that time. Then when the oil monitor says that it is time to change the oil at about 10,000 miles, I have the dealer do the oil change and reset the oil monitor. That way, the oil changes are more often and about equally spaced.
I used the oil recommended by Saab , Mobil 1 0W-40 synthetic motor oil.
