1. If GM can't find a buyer for Saab it's unlikely the Swedish government will let the company fail. Getting rid of GM ownership will be the best thing that could happen to Saab.
2. Federal law requires that all warranties be honored (even if a company stops doing business in the U.S.) so I'm not too worried that my recent purchase of a 2008 Aero Sportcombi XWD will leave me in the lurch.
3. Many Saabophiles deride the audio system and climate controls that are identical to other GM vehicles (e.g. my father-in-law's 2009 Chevy Equinox). However, I also own a 2000 9-3 SE convertible and I'll take the user friendliness of the controls on the newer cars over the illogical and tempermental ACC systems on the pre-GM vehicles any day. I do agree that the cheap GM hard plastic interiors on the new cars is not in keeping with the car's sticker price and is one of the biggest things that can be improved upon.
4. The 9-3 chassis being based on the GM Opal platform is not a bad thing, the Euro GM models are good cars that GM has started to bring here (although not nearly fast enough).
5. According to the techs at my local Saab dealer the GM derivative V6 engines are built in Australia and are significantly more reliable than the newer 4 cylinder turbos in the 9-3 and 9-5.
6. If my 2008 doesn't meet my expectations 'll just trade it in on something else when the warranty is up in 4 or 5 years. I'm certainly not losing sleep over my purchase.
