All season isn't what it used to be, for tires anyway. There are plenty of good all season tires out there that will acquit themselves well in the average urban or suburban area, where snow is removed quickly, and you don't absolutely have to go anyplace in the really deep stuff. If you live in the hinterlands, then 4 real snows is your best option, but if it's city driving, or suburbia, there's really little reason any longer to go with dedicated snows.
Tire Rack has scads of all-season tires in various styles from Grand Touring through ultra high performance. I've been using Bridgestones and in the snow we get in NJ, they're just fine for me, living in downtown suburbia. If I lived a lot further out in the sticks, I'd probably get full-on winter tires, but where I am now, there's really no need.
