For new folks to Saabnet the bulletin board listings are a little confusing. This bulletin board, or BB, you are on is actually for the newer 9-3SS design, 2003 and up for the sedans and 2004 and up for the verts, yes I know it's the only one that says convertibles.
Your Saab is a NG900/OG9-3, or New Generation 900 beginning in 1994 and those morphed into 9-3's in 1999 and the sedans continued on until 2002, and the verts (convertible shorthand) hung around one more year for 2003, whereas the sedans were totally revised for 2003 and are referred to as 9-3SS or 9-3 Sport Sedan.
I'll take a stab at your 99 9-3 speaker question or at least clarifying some of the issues. First do you have an SE or just a regular 9-3. The SE would have the ACC or automatic (digital) climate control, the non SE would have knobs. The SE's come with woofer speakers in the bottom of the doors which have a separate amp. If it's a non SE you might have your choice of speakers installed there.
