No, they key wasn't left in the car, I saw them take it out of the drawer. I assume the car was locked, it was in an outside lot, so I believe that key granted access. I happened to have the other set with me, so I handed that over when he said he needed another key, the one they had "had a bad battery" and therefore would not start the car. Then three folks came over and said they could not remove the key from the ignition, it will not turn, and the malfunction warning was displayed.
Are you suggesting they try lock/unlock even if the car is unlocked? They no longer have the second key, but it could be taken to them if you thought that would make a difference in diagnosing the issue.
This is my local SAAB dealer, I have always had a pretty good experience there- but not today!! There was no crew on hand, just the oil change folks. They said Monday it would be looked at. I also wimped out and did not go out to verify anything- it was 19 degrees here with 30-40 mph winds and snowing really hard.
Thanks!
