'03 9-3: Installing AC comp., any other maintenance?

Hi all,
My recently purchased '03 9-3 started blowing hot air and was diagnosed as needing a new A/C compressor. I've got a handy dad that will help me install a new compressor, along with an expansion valve & an accumulator.
1. What is the difficulty level associated with installing a new compressor? I've seen indications that the actual install isn't bad, but that it should be charged by a professional. Does anyone have any tips/pointers?
2. While I've got the car up on jacks, is there any maintenance, routine or otherwise, that I should perform? This car has 80K miles, and unfortunately I don't have any maintenance history on it (bought it at 73K).
My dad indicated that we should probably put a new serpentine belt on, and mentioned that we may consider doing the water pump/thermostat while we've already got the car apart :) Any thoughts here?
3. Speaking of maintenance: with a car at 80K miles and an uncertain history, is there any other maintenance, under the hood or not, I should consider?
Thanks everyone!
