May want to buy a tool anyway Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 26 May 2011 09:03:25 In Reply to: No special tool needed, Chadwick [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 26 May 2011 06:28:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
These brake kits also have the pieces to retract the standatd pistons, easier than using a large C-clamp
The $50 HarborFreight kit is said to contain the right adapter for the rear piston.
I bought an OTC7137 Brake Piston Kit kit from Tool Discounters for ~$37, and than the correct adapter (Assenamcher 450)from another supplier for ~$20, which puts me above the cost of the HarborFreight kit. My only consolation is that the kit uses a standard 3/8 drive so I can always add extra pieces in the future, where as the HarborFreight kit uses a special (proprietary?) two-pin drive method.
