Hello all—me again
Just got the 9-3 back yesterday from the second half (had to split in 2 to manage costs) of a handful of repairs which were needed. Well one of these included a total battery overhaul including new battery, 2 cables, and switch (corrosion killed it all).
Anyways this morning I started the can and the “Airbag Malfunction” warning popped up on the SID.
I heave browsed through previous posts and in order of best to worse case scenario it looks like it could be any of the following: simple quirk, loose/bad sensor under seat, battery/switch issue, airbag control module, column integration module.
I took a look at the sensors and they seemed fine, I didn’t remove/replug them in because they were kind hard to get to (even if I moved the seat). Interestingly the one on the passenger was backwards (the plug for the sensor was opposite from the direction the wire comes in so it has to be plugged in from the back side so to speak).
I did start the car without sitting in the seat, and removed all junk from passenger seat, but it still came on.
CIM issues have been reported on posts as a distinctive clicking metallic sound from under the steering wheel. Never noticed any distinctive sound before, but now that I am self conscious about this whole deal ever little noise bothers me (BTW there is an occasional noise when I turn the steering wheel, but it is very subtle almost like 2 pieces of leather quickly touching (NEVER ever thought about it before this)
Taking it back to the indie who did the work by the end of the week for him to check it out. Would be the world worst coincidence if it was something like the CIM, but with my luck nothing would surprise me.
Anyone thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.
