2.0T Leaking Timing Cover Posted by Chadwick [Email] (#569) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Chadwick) on Wed, 31 Aug 2011 15:29:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Had an interesting one today.
Customer had brought vehicle in before and reported a oil leak on the front passenger side. Looked like a headgasket from the top, which seemed odd since these engines don't leak like the old ones and the only leak I have seen in that area is from the timing cover plug on the cylinder head.
Had the RH engine mount out today as well as the belt tensioner (covered in oil from the belt being oil soaked), and found that the top 3 timing cover bolts were loose. Front two were about a quarter turn loose, rear was almost an entire turn loose. Service records indicate no timing area work ever performed and customer is original owner at 59k/mi. Car is a 2005.
Just one more thing to look out for.
Best,
-Chad
