In those 18 min charge for tire rotation, in my case, it is also balancing included and the cost of wheel weights.
Here the price of weights have gone up quite a bit with the introduction of steel instead of lead.
I am also not capable of completing an oil change in 18 min which is what I charge when you take into account of talking to the customer on the phone scheduling the service, greeting him and write up an estimate/work order if there are other things that they want me to take a look at. Drive the car around the block and listen to it, operate and check all electrical devices and washer/wiper function. Get it on the hoist and look over lights and such. Up in the air, drain oil and look over the underside and brakes and such. Down and replace filter and fill up with oil. Finish up and complete the invoice and clean up afterward.
So technically if you draw a hard economic line, pure oil changes are money looser for me but you do them so that you can be a full service station and alert customer if something is about to happen and schedule those repairs for another time or if they are easy enough to do at the same time.
Pure oil changes are pretty much money looser for the quicky lube too but they make the big profit on all the up sell they can squeeze in like fuel injection flushes, power steering flushes and such which they sell to very high prices.
These cars also use 6.3q of high grade full synthetic compared to 4.2q of dinosaur oil for the old 900s.
That's about it I think.
