Hard to say.
Any of the different repairs could have been the culprit but not until you reset learned adaptive values did the car start to calculate correctly again.
Many and most customer preset values are written to a hard memory so you won't erase any of that but holding the cables together any more than what would have been erased by leaving the battery unhooked for 10 minutes.
So no worries there.
It is becoming the norm now to erase codes and adaptive values as soon as you have done any repairs to a car, otherwise it might set a fault code again since it thinks that the repair you did is a fault because it doesn't agree with learned values.
You can go around in circles trying to find the problem even after the correct repair if you forget about resetting adaptive values.
Some cars are worse than others (Volvo S/V40 for instance).
