The older 5 speed AW transmission featured a "slipping" torque converter clutch for smoother performance than the 4 speed's "on-off" TC clutch. Mobil 3309, formulate originally specifically for AW by Esso under the T-4 moniker, is designed to accommodate that slipping. But the latest trend in a/t design is to lock up the TC clutch as soon as possible and keep it locked, using engine and transmission control electronics to smooth the shifts. Absent the slipping clutch, a different additive package may be more appropriate. I say this without knowing if the Saab 6 speed is in fact a "locked clutch" design or if it uses the slipping clutch feature of the earlier transmission. Perhaps someone with a more up to date WIS than I have can investigate.
