Just changed my passenger side wheel hub and I thought I would share the wealth with a few of the tools I needed to do the job for others who may be thinking about attempting this. Also note I was lucky in that my brakes are still in good shape so there was no retracting of the caliper.
1. 31mm socket (1 1/4 is also close enough to work, I think it comes out to a 31.75 mm so it is actually closer than a 32mm socket) with a 1/2 drive power handle. This is for taking the castle nut off the axle.
2. An e20 e-torx (female torx) to take the two bolts holding the caliper off.
3. A string to hold the caliper up. DO NOT LET IT DANGLE BY THE BRAKE LINE! As stated, after this point I was able to pull the brake assembly off w/o doing any further work.
4. A 5mm hex to remove the bolt holding the rotor on
5. An e-18 torx socket to remove the three 12, 4, and 8 o'clock bolts holding the hub assembly onto the car.
Note fits steps 2 and 4 that my e sockets were 3/8 and it is impossible to brake them loose with a small tool. So, use a 1/2 female to 3/8 adapter. Also you may want to have a few extensions to help. I actually found the spacing was very tight to remove the three hub bolts so the smaller 3/8 socket was handy. Once they break loose, a weak 3/8 inch ratchet finished them off.
6. I'M NOT A MECHANIC so the way I did the next step probably isn't the best way and others on here know far more than I,, but this is how I did it. I put a set of gear pullers around the old hub and spindle. Now, I'm not sure how much stress and axle can take and they do make a special tool designed for this, but if you don't have it, there are other ways. I only used the gear puller in the begining and after everything was soaked in wd-40. Also, you may want to disconnect the speed sensor too. In my situation, my car was an 03 9-3ss, so that loud hub was stuck and rusted in pretty firmly, so once the axle broke free from the internal bearing, I discarded the pullers because I didn't want to push against the axle too hard. As you will notice, the dust guard is blocking 2/3s of the rear access to the hub so you cannot hammer it from back there. What I noticed is there were two holes, non threaded, in the hub that were not being used for anything I could find about 60 degrees apart. If your hub didn't come off easily with the gear pullers, I took two bolts and ran them through the holes in caliper. Line the caliper up to the two thirds of space the dust plate is covering. Now, with the two taps inside the bolts, turn them to seperate the hub and then as you turn them, tap the other end that is open with a hammer and slowly tighten and repeat until the hub comes off.
7. I guess you will also need a new hub. The oem brand is F.A.G. At least it is on my 03.
Installation is the same as removal. Like I said, I'm not a mechanic so I am just letting you know how I did this. I hope this helps and to all, thanks for your help.
