I have heard some of the dealers are offering some type of 3rd party warranties for the new Saabs they have left. (Like the companies that offer extended warranties.) So, while there is no longer a Saab company offering factory warranties and handling recalls, you might be able to get some repair coverage for the chance of anything happening. I would ask the dealer.
In terms of general maintenance and repairs, if your area has any local independent shops that work on Saabs, I know they would appreciate your business. So, if you can get a good deal on a new Saab, you might come out well even if you have to have a few repairs. The constraint on parts is starting to clear up now that the Saab Parts is an independent company in Sweden with a North American subsidiary that is handling the parts distribution here in the U.S. and Canada.
But, it is true, that things may be a little more tricky than before Saab went bankrupt. But, as Peter said, the 9-3's have been around for a while now in this configuration and are pretty reliable and still one of the safest cars on the road....as well as fun to drive. If this will be your only vehicle, you may want to consider something else, but if you have another car as backup transportation, then if you can find a good deal for well under invoice, I would go for it.
