At least every 40-60K miles is my suggestion.
It would be about $150.00 if I did it. But it is also included when I do a major service on these cars changing all the filters and fluids.
The 6-speed use the same MTF0063 (P/N 93165290) fluid as all other manual transmissions from about 94 and up.
Saab have always claimed that the manual transmission is filled for life but I believe that many of the failures that plagued the 900 in the 80s and 90s could have been prevented if only the fluid had been changed and the magnetic drain plug clean off of all the metal debris.
Think of it this way.
If you never changed the fluid and transmission fails, you might kick yourself for not changing the fluid only saving a few hundreds of dollars.
If you do change the fluid and the transmission fails, you at least did whatever you could do (if the right fluid and procedures was followed) and you didn't loose that much more money compared to if you had never changed the fluid.
People also comment on how much smoother the transmission shift feels after changing the fluid so that is another aspect of it.
