That's a real good point.

I've got a small pile of Mobil-1 in the garage, so I don't have to run out & immediately buy some new oil. So I didn't really look at that list.

I hope we can somehow clarify whether a Dexos-1 oil is OK for the oil-life monitor in our cars.

1) Maybe all Dexos-1 oils are OK to use in our cars; but not necessarily out to the long oilchange interval that the oil-life monitor calls for.

2) Maybe all Dexos-1 oils actually satisfy what the oil-life monitor needs. I'm beginning to doubt this. Personally, I'm going to be very reluctant to use semi-synth and some of the brands that seem lower-grade to me. That's a real vague description but I'll probably look to see what BITOG has to say.

If someone wants to try something, and get oil-analysis done (with TBN), I'd be real interested to see how the oil's TBN varies with the oil-life-monitor reading. I'm planning to get TBN numbers for my cars, but I'm not gonna fund a study of 14 different oil types against each other.

I wish "we" (this board) knew someone who's really familiar with the Dexos "licensing" process. If there's no real testing, then how do we trust it? If there IS real testing, how do we know that any given Dexos-1 oil would actually satisfy GM-LL-A-025?

Just because GM "replaced" the GM-LL-A-025 spec with Dexos-1, a skeptic would say that GM's new engines (now NOT including Saab) are OK with Dexos-1 oil. Their oil-life monitors might be calibrated to call for an oil change at earlier intervals.
