the last Saab that had an old-fashioned speedo cable. It was probably 20 years ago in the Classic 900. Maybe some early 9000s, but most of them (if not all) had a generator mounted at the trans and two electrical wires coming up to the speedo.
The NG900 and later cars all use one of the ABS sensors for the speedo data. The ABS module reports the speed on the bus, and the MIU (Main Instrument Unit) picks it up (as do other modules). Usually one of the rear ABS sensors, but that was on the FWD cars. It's probably still the same on the AWD cars...
