Hi Steve,
And welcome in our province. I'm glad that you want your kids to practice French... We fight each day to keep that French-speaking province from tipping into the Anglo ocean.
It hurts me to tell you that, but definitely, use the Volvo. Quebec city is a friendly place for either brands, but there is no Saab dealer/indie between Montreal and Quebec. So if you have a major problem, towing to either Saab of Quebec or Cadillac de Laval (Montreal suburb) will be your best bet.
There is 250 km between the two cities. And Saab OEM parts are available on special order only, so you might wait a few days for a rare bit to arrive. On the other side, if the Saab part you need is available from an aftermarket supplier, at the most it will take a day.
Volvos are more common by a wide margin. Saabs are scarce even here in Montreal. But this is not a reason for me to switch to the other brand...
By the way, my old 9-5 is now the property of my neighbor, there is this guy with a 9-2x Aero, and another young neighbor just bought an NG900 last week. 4 Saabs in only 850 ft ! This must be the street with the highest rate of Saab per capita in the whole province !
Have a nice trip in our little french speaking kingdom...
