Mobil 0W40 when the oil change light goes on. OK, I admit, I cheated - after one year and the light went on, the oil life monitor still read in the 80s, (I used the CV seasonally, and then not so much) I changed the date to the year before). At least that was my plan. For the years 1-3 the company changed the oil every year. Year 4 was the SOC 10 track event, so I changed the oil before tracking the car. At the end of year 6 I changed the oil as per above and sold the car to my brother. But my daughter has two, and at my recommendation she is using Mobil as per the service monitor.
I do not believe in using a full 40 weight oil this car, as I recommend for the OG 9-5. (Mobil 1 0W40 is so close to a 30 weight - the in-bearing viscosity, HTHS, is just 3% above Castrol 0W30). The OG 9-5 runs 220F oil temperature, with an air-to-oil heat exchanger. The 9-3SS uses a water-to-oil heat exchanger, with a 190F thermostat on the cooling system. 30F is good for about one viscosity grade with most multi-grade ois (20F is one grade with straight-weight).
