I have owned a number of 9000 CSE and Aero 5-spds and just bought a 2006 9-3 Aero 6-spd manual. The 9-3 is much smoother, quieter and more refined. Harder to work on but much better built, I expect overall maintenance/repair costs to be slightly less. I bought a 9-3 SportCombi which is a wagon with similar utility to a 9000 hatchback - the 9-3 sedans have much less utility with small trunk. Rear seat room and comfort in the 9-3 is worse than the 9000. Front seats are not as comfortable either, and a bit too small, but decent. Fuel economy is considerably worse in the 9-3 Aero V6, especially around town, and premium is required. A/C and climate control is much better in the 9-3. Stereo is a bit weak in the 9-3 but better if you get the SportCombi because it has an extra subwoofer.
