Easy to add the roof rails Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 20 Nov 2015 03:12:17 In Reply to: Thanks!, dmz789qqq, Thu, 19 Nov 2015 20:44:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My wife made purchase of our SC conditional on the roof rails being removed. The Dealer bought the rail-less trim strips for us and I installed them.
In addition to the rails you will need the rail style roof trim strips, and have them painted to match your car's color (years ago you ordered them pre-painted). The trim strips just snap into grooves in the roof using plastic multi finger clips. A strong set of fingers is all that is required to remove them, and gentle smacks with the heel of your hand will reseat the new trim strips.
The roof rails mount with eight(?) bolts into threaded receivers welded to all SC bodies in the groove beneath the trim strips. These are then covered by plastic panels which snap-on to the four mounting legs of the roof rails.
An estimate of total cost to add these is $1000. Then as you said, you still need to buy the cross rails /accessories in order to use your new roof rails.
