2008 9-3 door panel photos Posted by TimN [Email] (#2379) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TimN) on Wed, 22 Mar 2017 20:49:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
On my 2008 9-3 convertible, the driver’s window decided that it didn’t like to be closed completely and so would roll down immediately after being closed. Such impudent behavior demanded retribution so I decided to clean the switches with electrical contact cleaner. This of course meant that the door panel had to be removed. This panel is unlike a 2000-2007 9-5 or older 9-3’s for that matter. (Hopefully) the photo links will show.
To remove the panel unsnap the door handle at the bottom where my finger is and remove the two Torx screws. The panel has to be pushed upwards and pulled outwards. It’s not connected by pins that push straight in, but rather by hooks. You can see them in the figure.
I think you start lifting up and pulling out at the lower left. Once the panel is loose the electrical connector for the mirror motor has to be removed since the wire is short. The cable to the door lock is held in place by a white plastic clip. It popped off easily. But I was very afraid that it might break. Then there are three other electrical connectors. They release easily but have different types of locking mechanisms.
The window control unit is held in with one screw. Then with a screw driver to pry away and by pulling you can release it from the panel. This is easier seen than described. Once I got it apart I blasted it with electrical parts cleaner.
To replace the panel, I started by the mirror control and lined up the top. This was difficult and it seemed like the speaker got in the way. Ultimately I popped the panel back in place. But I then had to push down on the panel very hard so that the Torx screw holes alined.
It was much more difficult than expected. If someone else knows the tricks please comment. But the window has returned to being submissive.
