Hmm, guess I better take another look Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 30 Mar 2017 16:37:36 In Reply to: Re: I wonder if our seat panels came from the same hide?, Pete [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 30 Mar 2017 14:43:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I know the darts in the seats of my '08 9-5 Aero are vinyl (EDIT - probably bonded leather as well). Very thin, glued to a fabric backing, and shattered/flaking on the driver's seat only.
The seat material in the wife's 2006 9-3SC sure appear to be leather. Much thicker with a leathery shade and feel inside the splits that are happening. Not split thru but looks really bad. If the seat cover is indeed partially vinyl, and we only get 10 years from the replacement, I will be happy.
EDIT: During the 5/17 installation of the new seat skin the Upholstery installer said the side bolsters of the seat are leather, but a bonded leather rather than a full thickness hide. Being super thin, this leather covering will crack, split, and pull free from its backing layer. All of which makes the side bolsters appear to be vinyl when they begin to fail. Obviously this seat leather needs regular love from a leather conditioner.
I did get a full color chart with leather samples from Lseats today. I plan on sending it back since I was only expecting three samples and this chart must be expensive.
