This is one of the few jobs I chickened out of and took it to an saab specialist indy. Not cheap, reflecting the amount of work!
They just laughed when I said I had thought about doing it using the tool. Crazy bit of GM design on the pump. It sounded like they had done a few rescues of people trying to DIY it.
Car had maybe 150K miles then and they did not mention changing any of the tensioners/guides when they had the cover off.
Would be interesting to know hear it goes. I still feel a bit silly not doing it myself. Car is a 2005 9-3SS Arc / 190K and this was the only time from new, that anyone else has worked on it.
I've done clutches, suspension, racks etc on the C900 and brakes, drive shafts, blower, fuel pump on the 9-3SS and have a Tech2 - do not usually scare too easily. Like the rack it did not sound fun without a lift as well!
