Rear caliper replacement Posted by Pete [Email] (#2000) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Pete) on Thu, 20 Aug 2020 12:47:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
What I found to be helpful...soak the handbrake cable (where is passes through the aluminum hole in the caliper) several times and several days in advance before attempting to remove the caliper. My brake cable popped out! (No core charge on damaged calipers removing the brake cable!)
When threading the brake cable back through same hole on rebuilt caliper, wrap some plumbers tape around the brake cable housing so it doesn't weld itself to the aluminum. I also wrap the threads of the brake bleed nipple in plumbers tape to prevent the nipple welding itself in place. Don't have to worry about it washing off.
