Anyone change the thermostat WITHOUT draining the coolant?? I read thru the WIS instructions regarding replacing the thermostat on a 4-cyl 9-3SS enigne. It appears to be far easier, definitely in regards to sight lines, than doing this same job on a 9-5 as I have done a few times in the past.
I do not have a lift, so draining the coolant would require driving it up on ramps, then driving it off again with no coolant in the engine, then possibly driving back up on the ramps a second time - also with no coolant. Call me old fashioned, but I don't like this approach.
The coolant level in the bottle is lower than the two small lines, so I should be able to suck all the coolant out using a Turkey Baster or Mity Vac, disconnect the two small lines and temporarily plug them while I remove the coolant bottle. At least, this looks to be feasible.
Not sure which vacuum line the WIS is stating should be temporarily disconnected. Maybe it will be obvious with the coolant bottle out.
Anyone done it this way?
