My first guess is that the mechanic might not have "bench bled" the slave cylinder properly.
The air bleed system is a poor design on the newer Saab's compared to the old 900/9000 and care needs to be taken to get all the air out of the slave cylinder before transmission is installed in car.
I don't know if it is a good way to get the air out at this point short of taking the transmission out again and bleed the slave cylinder.
