We are having issues with our 2006 9-3 2.0

CEL and code P0687 with these symptoms occurring sporadically over the last month.

Engine cooling fan sometimes comes on after engine shutdown, typically with a cold engine after only a few minutes of running. Does not seem to come on after shutdown after longer drives when engine is up to operating temp. Car sporadically likes to run rough, typically right at / after engine start up. Engine can be cold or warm. Once ran rough 2 weeks for 15 minutes on long highway drive at 65 mph. (Note Plugs and coils were replaced 30K mi ago with proper parts.) These events are followed by seemingly normal operation.

Car sometimes won’t go to full turbo boost pressure. Only goes halfway or so on the gauge with engine output to match.

Climate control fan sometimes will not blow full power.

Prior posts on the board and other sites suggest checking ECM wire harness, grounding back to battery, relays and fuses in fuse box in front of battery, ECM connectors, etc. Prior posts also have this code related to AC compressor not operating. Our AC is also coincidently not working, but on the same day the code was pulled, our mechanic found the compressor has a bad leak and the system will not hold coolant. So if we have this problem we won’t know it until a the mechanical items in the AC system are fixed. Often final suggestion to others is to replace ECM, which it seems is where most other people end up.

Ironically our ECM was replaced 4 1/2 years (50k mi) ago with a new unit from Orio, programmed with TEC 2 by local Saab Indy. When the original ECM went bad the car threw multiple codes and only symptom was that car would not start randomly.

Is there any other wisdom anyone can share? Anything else to check prior to seeking a new ECM?
