From here I heard good things about Northshore Saab in NY, so I started to go there even though it's a 20 min longer drive than the nearest one. I can't comment other dealers around here, but they didn't disappoint me a bit. BTW, wasn't the 30K service covered under warranty?
I take a list of things to check when I take my car to the dealer, and I ask which one is covered and which one's not. And, they suggested to call me and let me know when anything comes up that I'll have to pay. Also often they do minor things in good-will.
I have no doubt their service is excellent because they really care about a customer's feedback. They make sure I give them a feedback, either on their pre-paid postcard or by phone. They actually called me to remind me to fill out the postcard when I forgot about it. And, each time I visited, I have gotten a followup letter appreciating my business with them and asking me to be cooperative if I ever get a survey from Saab HQ. And, that's after three visits for a considerable amount of warranty service!
I just wanted to say not all dealers are crooks if you are willing to find the good ones albeit a little farther away. Ask around here and don't give up.
