Saab coolant--G48-strange Posted by Michael [Email] (#1365) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Michael) on Sat, 3 Jul 2004 18:37:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I was folling around in my garage tonight.
I mixed about 60% Blue coolant and about 40% distilled water in a container.
I had bought one of those cheapie coolant testers with 5 balls floating in the coolant when you extract some coolant into the tube with the 5 balls in it.
Anyway, if 5 balls flaot-then -40 degrees protection or better, when 4 float etc.
I measured 100% coolant only and all 5 balls floated to the top so -40 degrees- or colder.
The 60% coolant and 40% distilled caused 3 balls to float up so -10 degrees protection----This is peculiar since a 60% mixture should have provided around -25 or so degrees protection.
Is this just a peculiarity of distilled water, the tester, etc.,
Anybody else fool around with this stuff to see what temp testers actually read on mixed coolant and distilled water. I will fool around with it a little more and see what might be the source of the reading (maybe get another brand tester) Comments! Thanks
