It is a shame that too many dealers can't see the world beyond their noses. Saab has a loaner car program. The dealer orders cars from Saab as loaners, they stay in service for 4 months and they get an incentive. That requires an investment on their part!
There is no provision in the warranty to provide alternative transportation. As a goodwill offer, Saab has and will provide a car if it is down overnight. The above mentioned loaner car program was meant to offer transportation to customers if it was only going to be at the dealership for a few hours.
Some dealer have been abusing the rental usage, so Saab put the hammer down. Dealers like the one you mention above don't seem to get it that he's hurting his future business more than it is Saab.
