Bug in ACC of 2004 9-3 Arc 'Vert (long)

I have a 2004 9-3 Arc convertible, which I love. One problem bugs me, though, and the dealer seems mystified. He's reloaded the software, but the bug remains. According to the manual (and common sense), the ACC system will shut off the A/C compressor when the top goes down. However, this happens only about 60% of the time (and so far, 100% of the time in front of the dealer!). Often, when the top is lowered, the A/C compressor remains on. Of course, I can manually shut it off. For this car, I now see no solution other than resetting ths system so that the ACC defaults to the last setting when the top goes down, which is a reasonable fix. But what I can't figure out is whether GM/Saab cares enough about this kind of problem to have systems in place that keep track of error reports at individual dealers so that eventually, some central part of the corporation learns, with enough data, that there must be a problem that should be fixed for the next generation (or by a software update). Is the attitude of Saab/GM that now that our cars are run by computers, we should learn to live with unreliable software (the Microsoft model, perhaps), or is it instead what it ought to be for a car: the software is not as complex as that for a word processing program or a search engine, and because it is in a car, it should be reliable?
I admit that as a former VW owner, I would never have thought to complain about such a gremlin. But Saab seems, at least, to aspire to a higher standard.
