Fault Code or No Code?

If the check engine light is on, there will be a code stored. If the light is not on, there may be a code stored, and there may not. I know I had a DI cassette failing and the check engine light would come on, then turn off. It is normal for this to happen if the problem is intermittant. If they can pull a code, great. Post it and we can figure it out. If the CEL is not on, it is challenging for a technician to discover the problem. I've had O2 sensors, DI cassette, Faulty Trionic programming, intermittant check valves, loose gas caps, poor wiring repairs, and mass air flow sensors cause check engine lights to turn on and off. Some items will have stored data to create a diagnosis, others have no way of knowing without a code. I feel the technician is trying to fix it correctly without throwing parts at it.
If you can bring the car in with the light on, the chances of repairing it correctly are much greater.
Regards,
Jason
