Use the winter tires during the winter months. Then replace your MXV4s with a good summer tire in the spring. The winter tire will work better with the colder temperatures and you will have much better traction on snow and ice compared to an all season tire. I (and most all of my neighbors) ran winter tires during the winter months when I lived in Germany, and that included driving many miles on the autobahn (speed rated winter tires). One of my cars had all seasons, and it never had the grip in the winter weather compared to the car with winter tires. As an illustration of this, I had to attend training at a location where the parking lot was at the top of a snow and ice covered hill. My Saab was the only 2 wheel drive vehicle in the parking lot. Most of my American coworkers stayed with all season tires and could not make it up the hill. Changing tires and wheels also creates a natural tire rotation strategy.
