Prior to '99, the ng900 used regular engine oil in the tranny. Either '98 or '99 there was a change to saab synthetic MTF. Then in 2002, factory fill became MTF0063 which requires 2 full flush and fill procedures and a total of 5 liters of fluid at $14 a liter. So the fluid itself is $70 plus labor for the procedure, doesn't surprise me that it is that much. If you buy the fluid yourself, you can get it for around $11 per liter and find someone to to the 2 full flush and fills for less than that. getting at the check plug on the tranny can be a pain for the DIY'er under the car and where the plug drains, it tends to hit the subframe and splash a bit all over the place.
Price seems high but the fluid is not cheap. The MTF0063 is a worthy upgrade if your car doesn't have it in there now. It solves stocky gear problems and has an additive to better lube the syncros.
