Most BMWs hold 7 to 8 quarts of oil and have an oil filter twice the size of the SAAB's; furthermore, BMWs are not turbocharged and are therefore easier on the oil.
The 9-5 only holds about 4 quarts of oil (actually more, but only about 4 comes out at an oil change)
In your case I'd change the oil now, especially since your engine is still relatively new (break-in period=elevated wear metals)
After break-in is complete a 5,000 to 7,500 mile oil change interval is probably reasonable for the 9-5 (w/ synthetic), but since individual driving conditions vary, your best bet is oil analysis if you want to utilize extended oil change intervals.
