David H,
You are correct the AVS dB does not come in the standard Aero 17" wheel size ( 225-45-17).
The tires I have are actually 16" size (225-50-16). When I got the Borbet wheels with the AVS dB tires, I'd bought them for my leased '99 9-5 expecting to put them on a new 9-5 (non-Aero) when I replaced that car. However, the Aero was such a good deal and such fun to drive, I leased a new '01 Aero.
The 225-50-16 tires and 16" wheels fit perfectly on the Aero. The actual diameter of this tire and wheel combination is 24.86 inches. The standard 225-45-17 Aero tire and wheel diameter is 24.97 inches. So, as you see, there is a 0.11 inch (smaller) difference between what I have on my Aero and the stock fittings. This is decidedly negligible in terms of any effect on handling or speedometer/odometer readings.
In my opinion they seem quieter and better handling than the Pilots that come as standard on the Aero.
