I have a 9-5 wagon, year 2000, about 80,000 miles. A few months ago the Rear Light Failure warning came on. The bulb located on the trunk door, passenger side needed replacing, the bulb that illuminates the red lens (there is a wire harness with two sockets for bulbs)...evidently the bulb had heated up and deformed the plastic housing the socket fits into... and totaly disformed the socket itself. I bought and installed a new wire harness and installed a new bulb (this is the bulb with a single contact, bayonet mount). This lasted about 3 weeks. Again the Rear Light Failure light came on and when I inspected... this time the bulb was broken and a piece of the glass was melted into the plastic housing that the socket mounts onto (luckily the new socket was still okay).... any thoughts from anyone as to what the problem may be... could there be a short somewhere... some kind of electrical issue that is causing this bulb to heat up and break. Thanks in advance.
