Possible much cheaper alternative..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 11 Mar 2005 03:23:46 In Reply to: $3000 ABS repair! I had the ABS Control Module go bad on a 1992 Chevy Blazer while the vehicle was nearly new and still under warranty. Rather than replace the module (which was $1200 at the time), the Dealerhsip, per GM warranty direction, flushed and refilled the entire brake system. Apparently small particles of debris in the brake fluid can cause the valving system in these Controllers to plug and show as failed.
Initially I felt cheated that I got a $100 warranty "cleaning" rather than a $1200 replacement, but it worked! I drove the vehicle another 100,000+ miles and never had a second problem with the ABS Controller.
Since this is on your dime, I recommend you ask if a total flush and refill might solve your problem. Realize you are betting $300 to save $3000, and the total bill may become $3300 if the cheaper alternative doesn't work.
Best of luck.
